Lasby Yard Watering

SEPTEMBER CHECKLIST

Scheduled watering dates: Wednesday Sept 6 and Saturday Sept 9 (due to City restriction dates).

If, in the previous 24 hours, it has rained sufficiently to saturate the soil, watering via the back lawn sprinkler and watering the front & back Snow-On-The-Mountain can be skipped.  However, please still water the planter boxes and pick up the mail.  It is expected each visit will take about an hour.  The rate of pay is $15/watering.  Thank you!

1.  Back Yard Sprinkler (min 20 mins)

Close the ¼-turn ball valve on the patio (handle perpendicular to the hose).

Open house water tap to fully on.

Adjust water pressure via ¼-turn ball valve so that the sprinkler sprays from the back fence to the base of the house.  The water has to cover more than the lawn at this point, because when you water the front yard, the back yard water pressure will drop.  The sprinkler should water the raised garden and the plants in the back corner (under crab apple tree, near bird bath).

2.      Front Yard Flowers (~ 20 mins)

While the back-yard sprinkler is flowing, water the Front Yard Flowers.

The water spray nozzle will be attached to the front yard hose.  Close the ¼-turn ball valve.  Open house water tap fully on.

Pull front yard hose straight out, past the green ash tree, then walk across my front sidewalk to pull yet more hose off the reel. (Going around the tree keeps the hose from doing any damage and makes winding it back up, easier.)

Water the flowers and shrubs on the ground.  When facing the house, these will be right of the sidewalk, by the boulder, all the way to the west fence.

Water the flowers and plants in the brick planter.

Water the Snow-On-The-Mountain, around the Spruce trees.

When finished, retrace your path, taking the end of the hose with you, back around the green ash and to the water tap.

Close the house water tap.  Spray water on the small dogwood bush until there is no more water pressure in the hose.

Wind the hose back onto the reel, leaving both the ¼-turn ball valve and the spray nozzle open.

3.      BackYard Flowers (~40 mins)

Close ¼-turn ball valve, in the hose line on the patio.

Disconnect the sprinkler supply hose from the ¼-turn ball valve outlet and attach the spray nozzle to that ¼-turn ball valve outlet.  The spray nozzle will be located on the patio table.

Open the ¼-turn ball-valve on the patio.

Water the flowers and bushes against the back of house (raised and ground planters along the house and along the north wall of the garage, opposite side of the patio from those against the house).

Water the flowers in the planter boxes and pots, on the patio.

Spray water into the plastic water pail (left by the back hose reel) and use it to water the rhubarb plant, next to the garage, left of the BBQ.

Water the Snow-On-The-Mountain, around the Spruce trees, including the Dogwood bush and the three Potentilla shrubs, beside the cow skull.

If missed by sprinkler, water plants in south-west corner of the yard (under crab apple tree, near bird bath) and the south-east corner of the yard (far corner of garden, west of the garage).

When finished, close the ¼-turn ball valve supplying the spray nozzle to stop the flow of water.  Remove spray nozzle and return it to the patio table.

Connect the water supply hose to the sprinkler on left side of stone planter, east of the house, near the finger sculptures.

Open the ¼-turn ball valve and water the bedding area on east side of house that extends between house and garage.  Open the ¼-turn ball valve until the water extends to the sidewalk, south of the stone planter.  Flow water through this sprinkler for 20 minutes

      Close the ¼-turn ball valve.

      Close the house water tap.

Open the ¼-turn ball valve and release the remaining pressure in the hose.

Reconnect the ¼-turn ball valve to the back lawn sprinkler supply hose.

4.      Final Sprinkler Safety Check

Ensure the quarter-turn ball-valve on both back and front hoses (as well as front spray nozzle valve) are left open to let any leaking water drain out of the hoses.

5.      Mail

Return to the front of the house and collect any mail in the mail-box.

Close and latch (not lock) both front and alley gates upon your departure.

Store the mail at your home until we return, late Sunday, July 16.

6.      Garbage/Compost/Recycle Bins

Please return all bins next to fence on your Wednesday, September 6 visit

If you have any problems, call, or text our daughter, Andrea, (Cell: 587-225-4212).  Her husband, Scott, will be checking our house interior while we are away.
